What Is Read and CompEAT?

*The Lunch Bunch program has changed to a new reading program called Read and CompEAT.*

Read and CompEAT is an exciting new reading enrichment program for 4th and 5th grade students.  It is designed to encourage recreational reading, while offering a sense of fun and community.  Like the former Lunch Bunch program, students read four pre-selected books throughout the year and then compete with other classrooms to answer the most correct questions based on the book.  Participation requires that students also take and pass the AR tests.  Students meet during their lunch periods with a pizza lunch provided.  Literature is chosen by the Ocee Media Specialist to be age appropriate and interesting to the students.

How Does the Program Work?

The Read and CompEAT program is limited to 12 students from each classroom, on a first come basis.   Each child may check out a copy of the selected chapter book from the Ocee media center.  Four times a year, the students come together on a Friday lunch hour to compete with another classroom that has read the same book.  Each class earns points based on correct answers to questions about the book.  The classroom with the most points throughout the year will receive special recognition.   In addition, the book selections can be used for any required book report during the school year.  Students must have read the selection prior to the date in order to participate in the Read and CompEAT lunch.

How Can My Child Join Read and CompEAT?

Each student who wishes to participate MUST fill out an application and signed permission slip.  Students who return the application and permission slip by Friday, August 28 will be eligible to participate.  If there are more than 12 students, we will try to accommodate students in another class.
